Self-ligating braces for a more comfortable teeth straightening experience
If you’re looking for a more comfortable teeth straightening experience, the Damon System is it thanks to its use of passive self-ligating braces – this means that we don’t need to use elastic or metal ties around each bracket. Instead, the braces use an innovative slide mechanism to hold the wire and let your teeth move more freely. This cuts down on the friction and pressure associated with keeping the arch wires in place.
Damon Braces use light ‘high-technology’ arch wires that can help to provide more efficient treatment and require fewer adjustments, which means you’ll have to come in for fewer office visits.
We can create your braces with the support of Insignia™ Advanced Smile Design™, which is a new and innovative fully interactive software and custom appliance system that we can use with Damon braces to make sure that every aspect of your orthodontic treatment is individually tailored to you.
For an even more discreet treatment option, you can choose to have clear brackets.
- Innovative self-ligating braces with high technology arch wires
- Experience fewer office visits
- Enjoy greater comfort
- Minimise the need for extractions, palatal expansion or headgear

What are self-ligating braces?
Unlike traditional braces, self-ligating braces do not need elastic bands (‘ties’) to hold the arch wires in place. Instead, they use a permanently attached window that hold the wires using a slide mechanism that practically eliminates friction and binding as your teeth move into their new position.
How long does teeth straightening with Damon braces take?
The length of your treatment will depend on your individual case. One clinical study found that treatment with Damon braces typically takes four months less than with traditional braces.
You should be asked to attend fewer adjustment appointments during your treatment than you would with traditional braces, thanks to the self-ligating brackets and the fact that we won’t need to adjust any ties.
Will my teeth hurt during my treatment?
Most people find Damon braces comfortable. Damon braces use light forces applied by ‘shape memory’ copper nickel-titanium wires to move your teeth into place. While you may experience some minor discomfort when the braces are first attached or adjusted, the comfort levels should generally be good.
Can adults wear Damon braces?
Absolutely. Damon braces are suitable for most orthodontic cases and should straighten your teeth easily and to a high quality result. The materials used in these braces are far less bulky than in metal braces of the past, and you can even have clear brackets with Damon Clear if you would like a more discreet treatment option.
What is Insignia™ Advanced Smile Design™?
As we mentioned above, InsigniaTM is a new and innovative fully interactive software and custom appliance system that enables us to create Damon braces that are 100% customised to your mouth and how we need your teeth to move for the best results.
Using Insignia, we can create a virtual 3D model of your teeth now and of how you and we would like your teeth to look at the end of your treatment, so you know what to expect from the outset.
InsigniaTM Advanced Smile DesignTM offers a precise, start-to-finish process. We use brackets that are custom-made for each tooth and placed with computer-assisted precision, as well as custom wires. In most cases, there are fewer appointments to adjust the braces, simply because the Insignia system shows us exactly where to place them from the outset to create the best outcome.
We are excited by the results we have seen with InsigniaTM Advanced Smile DesignTM using Damon braces. It makes difficult and routine cases more manageable. Thanks to the precision of this system, we may even be able to shorten your treatment by as much as four to five months, although the treatment length will depend on your individual case.
How much will Damon braces cost?
We understand that cost may well be a deciding factor about whether or not you have orthodontic treatment. Broadly speaking, treatment with Damon braces begins at around £2,500 but every case is unique. Once we meet you for a consultation, we can look at the treatment you need, and how long we think it will take, then break down the costs and time frame into a written treatment plan to help you make an informed decision about whether you want to go ahead.
We offer interest-free payment options to help you spread the cost of your braces.
